Bonide Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control

This pest control is great for use on adelgids, aphids, bronze birch borers, emerald ash borer, leaf miners, scale, and many other species of bug. Will also prevent new infestations.

It's designed for use on listed fruit, nut, and ornamental trees and shrubs.

Soil Drench Application

Our concentrate dissolves in water allowing the insecticide to move through the root zone. Once in the roots, it moves up through the tree or shrub providing protection from insects. It also provides protection for new growth.

This product quickly mixes with water and should be applied by pouring or with backpack, compression, knapsack or tank type sprayers.

Before purchase look at the active Ingredient amount when comparing this product to Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control II. The Bayer product has twice the amount of Imidacloprid as the Bonide. I was very excited to purchase what I thought was the same product for much less money, and was dismayed to learn that the Bonide product requires twice as much per tree or bush than the Bayer. Thus, no savings.

This is an insecticidal soil drench to be applied once a year for the prevention of a number of destructive insects. My main concern is preventing borers which might damage any of my 24 fruit trees. After a great deal of research, reading many product labels, I settled in my trusted friend, Bonide.

This product is easy to use, which is important when doing so many trees. Read the instructions and time application appropriately and you will have good results. My best advice is go to the Bonide website, where you will find a bonanza of information for diagnosing and treating trees, vegetables and other plants to protect them from diseases and insects - and you can download the product label for specific products for clear, detailed instructions for use and application of the product.

I have a row of Leyland Cypress trees in my yard to act as a wind break (well...they will in a few years, hopefully) and I noticed some trees in rough shape. I looked closer, and basically all but maybe 2 of my trees were rich with bark-beetle. Turns out several neighbors had lost their cypress trees over the years. I guess our area is a danger zone. Desperate, I purchased this stuff, and immediately used it. It''s been about 8 months, and I didn''t lose a tree! It took a month or two, but the "drooping" branches got less....less...and stopped. One of my neighbors promised me she had "tried all that stuff" to no avail. She couldn''t believe I didn''t lose a single tree. Super SUPER happy with this stuff.

I can only speak to Leyland Cypress beetles. It definitely got rid of them for me. My trees were definitely in rough shape, and still look a little ''mangy'' ...but they are clearly recovering.

It''s not cheap, and you will use about 2 table-spoons of it per 1" of tree trunk. So a handful of larger trees will go through an entire jug. But it not only protected my trees.....it saved them from an ongoing infestation. I couldn''t be happier. Again....I''ve only used on Leyland Cypress. I guess different trees have different beetles. But I can''t think of why it wouldn''t work for cedars or pine beetles. Perhaps someone else can speak to that.

As a small-scale grower of heritage apple trees, I was desperate for a way to treat borers that were slowly killing my trees. They gradually lose leaves and their health declines when infested. This product also seems highly effective in controlling the "usual suspects" that ruin the fruit (plum curculios, various species of apple worms, etc.) It is hard for me to keep a consistent spray schedule in our wet climate (Western NC mountains), and "professional grade" products require a license (and are expensive!). As far as I can tell, the various governmental safety and environmental agencies have approved the active ingredient as "safe" for agriculture when used as directed. WILL DEFINITELY BUY AGAIN! (and yes, I love birds and most other wildlife). It requires use of Penta-Bark surfactant for use as an annual drench- once a year does it!

I bought this insecticide specifically to kill the larvae of the boxwood leaf miner. They had been sequestered in all five of my large boxwoods for six months, and were slowly killing them off. In late march, I sprayed the ground under them with the Bonide, watered it in, and waited.

Six weeks later, all five of my boxwoods are growing new leaves, there is no trace of any larvae, and no flying insects from hatched larvae. Unless something changes later this spring, this product worked as advertised, was taken up by the bushes, killed the larvae and saved my five beautiful bushes. Rather expensive, but worth it. Replacing the bushes would have cost a lot more.

Good JOB!

I have two silk trees (Alvizia) that had a problem with some sort of bore. I tried several products to remedy the problem but to no avail. After a couple years, the trees were in considerable distress. I applied the Bonide BND611 concentrate drench as directed (one single application). After one year, I am extremely pleased with the results, there is no evidence of infestation. Time for another treatment.

I also have a large number of silverberry shrubs that had a long standing problem with bores. The Bonide drench had similarly pleasing results with the silverberrys.

I followed the instructions and prepared the mixture (tap water plus ounces of this product) based on the height of shrub (or rose plant), or diameter of the tree and applied it to the soil before the start of the plant growth in our climate zone (in early March). I measured the circumference of the tree at breast height with measuring tape and divided it by 3.14 (pi) to get the diameter and then followed the provided table to figure out how many ounces of this product I needed to add to one gallon of water. I didn''t see any webworms on the sweet gum tree in the summer of 2019. Also, Japanese beetles did not seem to be as numerous in summer of 2019 as they were in summer of 2018 when my roses were completely defoliated by them. This, of course, could have been due to other factors. Japanese beetles can cause a great deal of damage to roses and some trees but I am not sure whether this product is the right insecticide for them. At any rate, in fall of 2019, I bought more of this product and recently applied it to the soil following the provided instructions. I am looking forward to seeing Japanese beetles perhaps suffer and webworms fall off the trees and see stars before they enter their next life in h..l. (I am sorry but I don''t like harmful insects. My least favorite insects include, but not limited to, yellow jacket bees, mosquitoes, ticks and, of course, the Japanese beetles...).

We use it for an invasive beetle that attacks agaves. We mix as for shrubs in the instructions and drench the root areas of plants. This is a great value for imidacloprid, the active ingredient, since we have a lot of agaves. There are questions about using this for trees and I guess it depends on the size of the tree. The poison is taken up by the roots and goes into the entire plant. If you have a large tree and know the size of its root system I guess you could figure out a way to apply this product. Otherwise I would contact the company or your local agricultural extension office for advice.
